Is Career Step a Scam?
Simple answer: No, Career Step is not a scam. Career Step is a legitimate online AHDI-approved medical transcription school.
EXPLAINATION: I find it odd that some people might think that Career Step is a scam. I suppose the work at home aspect of medical transcription might be what people question. A quick online search revealed some strange reasons why people accuse Career Step of being a scam.
One complaint I found blames Career Step for not placing them in a job. Career Step is a school, not a job placement agency however Career Step goes above and beyond by offering graduate resources. Career Step gives graduates access to Placement Direct which is an online job search tool. Career Step will also send their graduates new job opening notifications. This is MUCH more than my university offered me after I graduated with a Bachelors in Business Administration. In fact, after I graduated, I went to the campus career center looking for a job and was told that they only post jobs for students, not grads. And I paid them A LOT more than what Career Step charges. Career Step will help you, not guarantee you a job. Any school that says they will guarantee you a job is more than likely a scam.
In my search online, I also found a student who was upset because they couldn't get a course refund when they didn't finish the training course. All schools (colleges and universities included) have refund policies. Career Step clearly states, "If, for any reason, a student withdraws within fourteen (14) days after the initial access to online program materials has been granted, his/her money shall be refunded IN FULL, less a $50 application fee and the nonrefundable shipping and handling fee, and the Enrollment Agreement shall be rescinded."
Making a career change is a big decision. Make sure that this is something you want to do and can commit to before you enroll. View the Career Step course demo and training tour so you can see how you would interact and move throughout the course to see if it is right for you. One can't expect to be half way through a training course, decide they just don't want to do it anymore and expect a full refund. This is true for all schools, not just Career Step.
I'll admit that even I was a little skeptical when I first heard about Career Step nearly a decade ago. But back then, I didn't think that work at home jobs really existed. Once I learned more about Career Step, I came to realize just how legitimate this school truly is.
